Parsing race data and preparing the archive…

Bathurst race history, brought to life

The Great Race, decoded: every available lap, every car, 1960–2025.

Built on more than two years of research, this archive brings race results, historical detail and interactive lap-by-lap position charts together—from the Phillip Island Armstrong 500 to the modern Bathurst 1000.

A two-year project, built from the record

Every chart begins with a difficult question: where was each car, lap after lap? Reconstructing the race means comparing scattered historical records, resolving gaps, and checking the sequence against the final classification. This archive brings that research together in an interactive format, so fans can follow individual cars through the race rather than only see the finishing order.

The story starts before Bathurst became the race’s home. The archive includes the 1960–1962 Armstrong 500 races at Phillip Island, preserving the often-overlooked beginnings alongside the later mountain years. Results and charts are presented according to the historical information available; research continues where lap-by-lap records are incomplete.
